Fletcher Building sacks 1500 as economy sours

Fletcher Building is sacking 1500 people, including 500 in Australia, because of a sharp drop in demand as the economic damage from the coronavirus pandemic washes through the construction sector.

Chief executive Ross Taylor said he had made a practical decision to respond to an economy where the construction market would be substantially weaker, with around 10 per cent of the entire workforce to be made redundant.
