A scalpel-wielding droid may sound like something out of a Star Wars movie, but robots are becoming more common in Australian operating theatres.

Victorian Geoff Rohde became the first person in the Asia-Pacific region to undergo complex microsurgery by a new generation robot called Symani when in August a “man-sized machine” performed a complex cancer reconstruction on his left leg.
