Former Crown Resorts director John Poynton has taken a swipe at chairman Helen Coonan and the NSW regulator, maintaining he was never a James Packer puppet, as he prepares to give evidence to West Australian royal commission into the company’s fitness to hold a casino licence in the state.

Mr Poynton maintains he could have played an important role in rebuilding Crown in the wake of the Bergin inquiry.
