Veterans' bitter battle to win insurance claim for injuries
Decorated Afghan war veterans claim their mental and physical torment has been worsened by small-print exclusions and the exhaustive medical testing required to make a claim on total and permanent disability insurance.
The veterans, some of whom witnessed mates killed during tours of duty in Afghanistan, Iraq and Timor, also attacked insurers' efforts to have them retrained as “burger flippers”, despite compelling medical evidence they are unfit to work.
