Funds management rivals VanEck and BetaShares have each lodged submissions with the Australian Securities Exchange as they race to list the country’s first cryptocurrency-backed exchange-traded fund.

The ASX has received a handful of formal applications from investment managers gunning to launch a bitcoin ETF after the corporate regulator in March rejected industry speculation it was opposed to such a product.
