A race is on to create the first exchange-traded bitcoin fund in the US and Australia, with regulators under pressure to bring the snowballing industry closer to heel.

On Friday, Canada’s securities regulator confirmed it has cleared the launch of the world’s first bitcoin exchange traded fund or ETF. In the US this week, the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) officially filed an application to list shares of a VanEck-operated bitcoin ETF.
