Extensive efforts under way to simplify the notoriously complicated Corporations Act must be completed to ensure the Hayne royal commission has a lasting impact on the economy, consumer groups say.

The Australian Law Reform Commission is deep into an inquiry to fix the corporate law, which even experienced commercial lawyers describe as impenetrable. It has found financial services law to be unwieldy and incoherent.
