Some important issues about ASIC’s resourcing and structure have been raised recently. I have previously said these issues require Canberra’s attention.

In particular, the observation that ASIC is “chronically” underfunded is correct. ASIC has never been a funding priority for the government, except during the 2018-19 royal commission. This needs to change.
