John Lonsdale has been appointed chairman of the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority as the agency grapples with rapidly rising interest rates and a property market slowdown that threatens to squeeze household and bank balance sheets.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers announced on Friday that Mr Lonsdale, who is one of the agency’s two deputies, will replace outgoing chairman Wayne Byres at the end of the month.
