Big super’s grasp on ASX leads ASIC to fear private markets contagion

The country’s major superannuation funds now own almost a quarter of all ASX-listed securities, raising the risk that an international shock in their unlisted investments could spill directly into the public markets.

That’s one of the key findings in a report into private markets to be released by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, with the regulator describing the retirement savings system as “one of the most important aspects” in the growth of listed and unlisted investments.
