Those in favour of government intervention on gas supplies on the eastern coast should maybe take a hard look at the latest gas market study over in the West.

The Gas Statement of Opportunities released last week by the Western Australian Independent Market Operator (IMO) is hardly a convincing argument for gas reservation, despite the growth in supplies since the policy was introduced eight years ago. Rather, it reveals how the policy clouds the usual market drivers and its possible side effects.
