Tech no hurdle for Coalition’s nuclear plan

The Coalition’s ambitious nuclear plan appears possible using existing technologies developed by Westinghouse, Rolls-Royce and Korean firms, but it would require regulations to be widened and a huge training effort, in addition to lifting the ban on nuclear power.

That is the view of technical experts in the sector, who say Australia’s experience in nuclear – so far limited to research and the production of medical isotopes – sets it up well to expand its use of the technology into electricity generation to help reach net zero emissions.
