Record solar generation and a milder summer has resulted in the lowest demand in the National Electricity Market in the March quarter since 2005, according to the Australian Energy Market Operator.
The glut of cheap solar power during the middle of the day has contributed to a significant drop in gas and coal generation and a big spike in negative prices, where generators are losing money.
