The former boss of New Zealand’s Contact Energy will take over the reins as the new chief executive of Snowy Hydro just as pressure builds around the government-owned renewables giant because of troubles at two major new projects and an expected dive in earnings.

Dennis Barnes, who will take up the role on February 1, replaces Paul Broad, who exited in August after a clash with Federal Energy and Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen.
