Santos has bought a gas pipeline project to connect its long-contested Narrabri gas project in NSW to the east coast market, helping ease a domestic fuel shortage and heading off Labor threats to impose price and export controls.

As the Greens called for Labor to oppose future gas projects, federal Resources Minister Madeleine King said the public in NSW and Victoria would be “astounded” if it knew how reliant these states were on coal and not on cleaner gas.
