Friday’s crucial meeting of energy ministers was effectively the death knell for a national capacity mechanism, respected energy executive Kerry Schott says, and states will be largely left to implement their own schemes.

Amid growing discontent from energy companies over the design of the capacity mechanism, the Energy Security Board has been sidelined, leaving federal, state and territory ministers and their bureaucrats to implement the scheme that is due to start in mid-2025.
