Outage at power station broadens Victoria’s energy crisis

A near-three-week outage at a unit at EnergyAustralia’s Yallourn coal power plant has raised the risk of electricity shortages in Victoria just as the state faces a winter gas shortfall and a cold snap ramps up demand for home heating.

A second unit at the ageing 1480-megawatt Yallourn is also unexpectedly out of action, as is one unit at AGL Energy’s Loy Yang A plant, also in Victoria, electricity market watchers said.
