Queensland will introduce a new, simpler royalty scheme for gas producers at the end of the year after lobbying from producers, which had claimed the previous system was unfair and too complex.

Under the new scheme, which starts on October 1 and applies to the final quarter of 2020, royalties will be calculated on the volume of gas produced and will include a sliding rate scale.
