Furious Glencore slams Qld knockback of emissions project
Queensland Premier Steven Miles will consider carbon capture storage regulations after mining giant Glencore said the rejection of a CCS plan on environmental grounds called into question the government’s commitment to emission reduction targets.
Glencore said last week’s decision to knock back the company’s plan to pump tonnes of captured CO₂ into the ground near the Great Artesian Basin in a trial meant the government had “effectively banned carbon capture and storage projects in Queensland”.
