Electricity bills are expected to rise sharply next year amid the global energy crunch, and if regulators don’t let the retailers pass on increased wholesale costs that could squeeze margins and send more of the smaller players to the wall.
Alinta Energy chief executive Jeff Dimery on Monday warned that retail electricity prices could soar by at least 35 per cent in 2023, primarily driven by the soaring cost of wholesale energy.
