Battery electric vehicles have stolen a march on cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells, but there might be room for both on Australian roads.
The symbolism was hard to miss as the hydrogen-powered car cruised past the monuments to oil that line Kororoit Creek Road in Melbourne’s industrial west.
The shuttered ExxonMobil oil refinery and the defunct plastic and petrochemical plants of Qenos and Dow Chemical became a blur as the flammable gas of the future provided surprisingly strong and instantaneous jolts of horsepower.
