AusNet takeover leaves void in energy sector
Australia’s listed electricity infrastructure sector is headed for extinction after AusNet Services shareholders voted an overwhelming 99.76 per cent in favour of a $18 billion takeover by a Brookfield-led group, just weeks after Spark Infrastructure was also taken private.
Proxy voting among AusNet shareholders came in so strongly in support of the deal that it was irrelevant what 19.9 per cent owner State Grid Corporation of China decided to do. The Chinese giant eventually also voted for the transaction.
