Gas pipeline giant APA Group has warned Australia’s energy market operator that it risks seriously underestimating the costs of LNG import terminals in planning for the country’s gas infrastructure, and locking customers into higher prices.
APA’s concern is the latest evidence of growing unease among existing gas producers and infrastructure owners about the impact of LNG imports on the local market. APA is a strong supporter of developing domestic gas to meet demand in Australia’s south-east rather than importing it.
