APA Group tapped as ‘preferred bidder’ for bankrupt Basslink

Pipeline giant APA Group has been named preferred bidder for the sale of bankrupt electricity interconnector Basslink, after a hotly contested six-week auction for underwater electricity cable that connects the Tasmanian and Victorian grids.

A damaged Basslink cable. Basslink failures in 2019 and 2015 strained Victoria’s electricity grid and caused financial stress to its owner.
