APA still targeting gas growth despite 2030 climate goals

Outgoing APA Group chief executive Rob Wheals says new targets for emissions reduction for 2030 will not prevent the gas pipeline owner from further expanding in a fuel that the recent east coast energy crisis has shown is critical to support the energy transition.

Mr Wheals said that if necessary, the baseline for APA’s new climate targets would be reset to allow for new investments or acquisitions in gas transmission, which could result in emissions rising.
