The head of the Australian Energy Market Operator has tempered expectations about the ability of offshore wind to ease the country’s energy crisis, as Australia follows Europe and the United States in ramping up the sector.
The United Kingdom government this week committed a further £25 million ($43 million) to their offshore wind program, bringing their total investment to £50 million as they aim to have offshore wind generation – which provided 13 per cent of its energy needs in 2020 – achieve up to 50GW on their energy by 2030.
