Varroa mite could lead to interstate bee shortage, grower warns

Almond grower Select Harvests has warned it is “increasingly likely” there will be a bee shortage in South Australia and Victoria following the varroa mite outbreak in NSW.

Varroa mite is an exotic parasite of European honey bees and their brood. It weakens and kills honey bee colonies and can also transmit honey bee viruses.
