Nufarm managing director Greg Hunt says the vagaries of the weather will play a big part in shaping the company's fortunes as it tries to rectify a slump in earnings and turn around its struggling European operations.

The farm chemicals maker and distributor unveiled a huge loss and weaker earnings on Wednesday, the eve of former Bunnings boss John Gillam replacing Donald McGauchie as chairman.
