Methane emissions can’t be excluded from net zero target

Australia will not exclude methane emissions – from livestock as well as coal and LNG projects – in its push to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
While the focus in tackling global warming has mostly been on carbon dioxide emissions, methane emissions account for 126 million tonnes – or about one-third of Australia’s 529 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent gas in 2019.
