Biosecurity delays fuel importers’ costs
Biosecurity checks of goods shipped into Australia are taking up to a month to complete as inspectors struggle with staff shortages and new disease outbreaks, further pushing up costs at a time of surging inflation, importers say.
Brian Hack, managing director of Fremantle-based EES Shipping, said the freight forwarder, which provides logistics services, was experiencing “amazing delays” for biosecurity checks on imported containers in Melbourne.
