After almost crossing paths 28 years ago, Cromwell Group chief executive Paul Weightman and corporate raider Gary Weiss have now locked horns for the denouement of a year-long struggle for control of $11 billion in property assets.

The fight got really serious on Tuesday when Singapore-based ARA Asset Management lobbed a proportional $600 million takeover offer for Cromwell Group at a razor-thin premium.
