Transurban hijacks NSW toll review, raises social licence stakes

Transurban changed its tune in June, promising to be part of the solution. It has six months to come up with something better for Sydney’s drivers.

Transurban and its big backers have six months to fix Sydney’s expansive toll roads network; otherwise the state government may have to pull out the big stick.

Realising they could be in for a hiding, Transurban and backers including AustralianSuper, UniSuper and IFM Investors got on the front foot in June, offering the government to come up with some easy political wins that may or may not include broad policy reform.
