This card surcharge crackdown won’t solve cost of living crisis
It would be great for shoppers if the RBA and the competition watchdog found widespread rorting of payment surcharges. But don’t hold your breath.
You can take away fees on debit card transactions, but someone still needs to pay for Australia’s payments infrastructure.
And if it’s not customers via a surcharge, it is likely to be the customer via a slightly higher purchase price.
