Brookfield’s latest injection of funds into Healthscope is more evidence of the need for the government to step in to try to resolve a mess that’s getting more desperate.
Australia’s private hospital crisis appears to be heading to some sort of breaking point. It is just a question of whether that big moment is government intervention, or more hospitals shutting.
Brookfield’s decision to inject tens of millions of dollars of fresh capital into debt-laden private hospital operator Healthscope should put to bed the idea that the Canadian private capital giant is battling the private health insurers in a bid to increase its profits.
