Andrew Clifford, the co-founder, chief executive and chief investment officer of fund manager Platinum Asset Management, clearly chose his opening words to the group’s December half analyst briefing very carefully.

“The biggest enemy of the investor is confirmation bias,” he said on a webinar held on Friday morning. “Whether it’s investing or other pursuits, we tend to seek out the information that confirms our already held views.”
