CSR’s patient rebuild leads to a French revolution

Julie Coates restructured the company’s operations and rebuilt its supply chain. The lift in margins those moves created have helped seal a big takeover deal. 

In a funny way, the road to CSR’s $4.3 billion takeover by French group Saint-Gobain runs through Woolworths, Big W and the once-proud food giant, Goodman Fielder.

CSR’s quietly effective chief executive, Julie Coates, rose through the ranks of Woolies and then joined a private equity turnaround of Goodman before landing at CSR in September 2019.
