When Ben Weiss came to Israel to help his 86-year-old grandmother Lotte publish her story of survival from the Auschwitz concentration camp, he had no intention of building a bridge to Asia for local technology start-ups.

Nor did he have any thoughts of blazing a trail as a defender of minority interests in the fast-moving and sometimes cut-throat world of venture capital.
