Humm Group chief executive Rebecca James says Square’s takeover of Afterpay is just the start of the rush of deals in the buy now, pay later sector. And she’s got the cash and the determination to get a seat at the table.

James argues the structural shift away from revolving credit (credit cards) towards paying in fixed instalments (buy now, pay later) has become so strong that big tech players such as Apple and PayPal, banks and loyalty schemes can no longer afford to ignore it.
