ANZ moves the CEO succession pieces
Big moves in the upper management ranks of ANZ Banking Group have raised the possibility that a woman might run the bank for the first time in its 187 years.
Maile Carnegie’s elevation to head of ANZ Banking Group’s retail business is a sure indication her operational management skills are being tested in the lead-up to the departure of CEO Shayne Elliott.
Carnegie’s ascension to a role that combines retail banking with the digital division means the end of Mark Hand’s 30-year career at ANZ. Commercial banking is being spun off into a separate division with a reporting line to Elliott.
