Salt Creek kidnapper Roman Heinze won’t settle lawsuit until his ‘missing items’ are found

He tried to rape and bash two backpackers, but the Salt Creek kidnapper says he’s hard done by — because a former friend has lost his statues and fishing reel, and broken his “imported” chair.

The Salt Creek kidnapper says he won’t settle a lawsuit until his two “missing” statues and “collector’s edition” fishing reel are found — and someone explains how his “imported” chair was broken.

Roman Heinze appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, by video link from prison, in his ongoing $26,089 claim against his daughter’s ex-boyfriend.

Roman Heinze is in prison until at least 2033.

The sex pervert — who will not be eligible for parole until 2033 — wants the man to return possessions he stored, at Heinze’s request, in a WA storage unit after his arrest.

On Wednesday, the court heard the man was willing to do so and wanted “to be rid of” both the items and the case — but Heinze said that was not good enough.

“There’s still a number of items missing … two bronze statues, of an old man and an eagle, and they’re very expensive,” he said.

“There’s also a collector’s edition fishing reel — you can’t get them any more, they stopped making them in the early 1970s, it’s a collector’s item — that’s missing.

“Also, (the man) says there’s a broken dining chair … there was nothing broken when it went into his possession and it can’t be repaired because it was imported from overseas.”

Heinze, 62, is serving a 17 year minimum term for violent sexual offending including the 2016 assault and kidnapping of two backpackers at Salt Creek.

In March, The Advertiser revealed he was suing multiple parties, including one of his sons — whom he dubbed a “money-hungry turd” — and SA Police over his belongings.

However, a spokesperson for the Heinze family said the depraved, sex-obsessed kidnapper was “harassing” them for money to fund a High Court appeal against his convictions.

On Wednesday, Mark Esau, for the daughter’s ex-boyfriend, said his client was keen to resolve the case and had “made a list” of the storage container’s contents.

“We just want to make sure everyone is on the same page about what items are going to be returned,” he said.

“I stress that my client does not want any of them, he wants to be rid of this matter, but doesn’t want there to be problems down the track.”

Heinze said there were already problems, based on the man’s list.

“There’s also one pressure cooker missing, it was brand new … there were two when (the man) took the items, now there’s only one,” he said.

“I’ve made a list too, I’ve got a list here (in prison).”

Magistrate Briony Kennewell reminded Heinze the man had taken the items “at your request” and said there needed “to be give and take” to resolve the matter.

She adjourned the case until November to permit further negotiations.
