FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16

B-DOUBLE CRASHES ON NORTHERN EXPRESSWAY

Two people have escaped serious injury after a B-double truck crashed into the side of a bridge on the Northern Expressway this morning.

The B-double was reported to have come off the road near Penfield Road at Penfield Gardens around 6am Friday.

Two males were taken to the Lyell McEwin with minor injuries.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15

HELLS ANGELS ARRESTED IN SA DURING NATIONAL OPERATION

Four people, including a Hells Angels member and associate, have been arrested in South Australia during a nationwide operation targeting the bikie gang.

SA Police Crime Gangs Task Force and Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives conducted several searches as part of a national day of action on Wednesday.

The searches were focused on drugs, firearms and coronavirus compliance checks at five businesses associated with the Hells Angels.

Police say they found a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine, about 30 litres of fantasy (GHB), $5000 cash and a drug lab at a Burton address.

A 39-year-old Burton man, who police allege is a Hells Angels member, and a 41-year-old Angle Vale woman were arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled drug, manufacturing a controlled drug and unlawful possession.

The man was refused bail to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Thursday, while the woman was bailed to appear in the same court next month.

Detectives also searched a Morphettville home, where they found 21 cannabis plants and hydroponic equipment.

A 30-year-old Kilburn man, who police allege is a Hells Angels associate, and a 29-year-old Novar Gardens man were arrested and charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis and possessing prescribed equipment.

Both men were bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later this month.

Another Hells Angels member was found to be in breach of his parole and a report has been provided to the Correctional Services Department for consideration.

Crime Gangs Task Force Detective acting Chief Inspector Damian Minchenberg said police would continue to proactively police the criminality of bikie gangs.

The national operation included 28 searches and resulted in 24 arrests.

DRIVER FIVE TIMES OVER CRASHES AT GLENBURNIE

A driver who blew almost five times over the legal blood alcohol has lost his licence after crashing into a fence and a tree, causing the vehicle to burst into flames at Glenburnie overnight.

The Commodore station wagon crashed into a fence and tree and caught fire around 10pm Wednesday on Hawkins Rd.

The driver, a 50-year-old southeast man, was uninjured in the crash.

He was breath tested and returned an alleged blood alcohol reading of 0.233, almost five times over the legal blood alcohol limit of 0.05.

The man was issued an immediate 12-month loss of licence and will appear in court at a later date. HIs car was completely destroyed in the crash.

FIRE DESTROYS VEGETABLE BUSINESS

Fire has destroyed an industrial shed at a northern suburbs vegetable-growing business, leaving a damage bill of $2.5 million.

TOILET PAPER THIEVES TO FACE COURT

Two people caught on camera stealing toilet paper from a public toilet at Tungkillo, near Birdwood – in the height of the pandemic this year – have been summonsed to appear in court.

A man and woman were captured on CCTV taking an industrial size roll of toilet paper from the Brinkworth Rd toilet block around 3.30pm on March 31, police say.

The couple are alleged to have damaged the wire cage around the facility to gain access.

A 50-year-old Valley View man was reported for theft on October 8.

Meanwhile, a 49-year-old Burton woman was reported for theft on Wednesday.

They will both be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14

MAN ARRESTED FOR BRANDISHING GEL BLASTER

STAR Group officers have arrested a man for allegedly brandishing a gel blaster outside a Port Adelaide home.

Police said the man was yelling and waving the firearm when officers arrived on Leadenhall Street about 4.30pm on Wednesday.

The man then went back inside before he and three other people were talked out of the home.

Officers searched the house and seized a black gel blaster. Police said the incident was resolved quickly and no one was injured.

A Port Adelaide man, 26, was arrested and charged with creating false belief, aggravated assault and possessing a firearm.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.

OFF-DUTY FIREY SAVES ELDERLY WOMAN FROM BLAZE

A passing off-duty firefighter has saved an elderly woman from a house blaze in Para Hills West.

The blaze broke out on Beafield Road just before 7.30am on Wednesday. An off-duty firefighter saw the blaze and called triple-0 before helping an elderly woman inside escape. Two dogs died in the blaze.

The woman was treated on scene for smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital for further treatment.

MFS crews controlled the aggressive blaze in about 30 minutes, but the single-storey home was almost completely destroyed.

Flames also spread to a neighbour’s pergola.

SUSPICIOUS FIRE AT YANKALILLA

Police are investigating reports of arson in Yankalilla, after two shed and a car were deliberately set alight on a property this morning.

The two sheds located at a property on Kemmiss Road, and the car, were set around 5am Wednesday, police say.

The fires took crews around an hour to control.

There were no injuries reported in the fires, but police say they were deliberately lit.

Crime Scene Investigators are attending the scene this morning.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER BREAK-IN AND MULTIPLE CAR THEFTS

A man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into a home and stealing two cars in Parafield Gardens and Maitland.

A man reported his Parafield Gardens house had been broken into and his Commodore Station Wagon was stolen around 4.30am Tuesday.

Police received reports the stolen Commodore was driving erratically on the Yorke Highway at Clinton around 10am the same day.

The car was found dumped at Arthurton and the suspect was arrested nearby.

The man was alleged to have stolen a Toyota 4WD from a Maitland business on October 6.

Police charged the 29-year-old Maitland man with serious criminal trespass, theft, two counts of illegal use and two counts of breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear in the Kadina Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The Commodore was returned to its owner, however the Toyota 4WD, with registration number S096BIL remains missing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 000 333.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13

TEEN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT

A teenager boy has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female in a random attack in the Adelaide CBD earlier this month.

The victim was approached by the suspect in the early hours of Sunday October 4 in the CBD, before she was sexually assaulted. The suspect was not known to the victim and she was not physically injured.

Police arrested and charged a 16-year-old boy from Adelaide with sexual assault. He was refused police bail to appear in Adelaide Youth Court today or tomorrow.

MAN ON THE RUN AFTER NORTH ADELAIDE ASSAULT

A man is on the run after hitting another man on the head with a metal pipe – leaving the victim with cuts to the head – at a North Adelaide cafe at the weekend.

A man was struck on the head with a metal pipe around 10.30pm Saturday at a cafe on O’Connell Street.

The victim was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with lacerations to his head.

Police attended the scene but were unable to locate the suspect, who is described as being caucasian, aged in his mid-20s, with a slim build, dark hair and wearing a dark hooded top. He was last seen running north along O’Connell Street.

Investigations are ongoing and police are reviewing CCTV.

STOLEN CAR SET ALIGHT AT PARA HILLS

Police are investigating an incident involving a stolen car set alight at Para Hills in the early hours of this morning.

The Toyota Corolla was spotted on fire on Maves Road around 5am Tuesday.

Crews controlled the blaze and prevented it spreading – however it caused extensive damage to the vehicle.

The car was reported stolen from a Para Hills address sometime within the previous two days.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 12

COVID BREACH AT PAYNEHAM

The organiser of a private function in Payneham has been fined for breaching COVID directions after more than a hundred guests were caught flouting social distancing rules.

Police attended the community centre on Henry Street around 8pm Saturday after it was reported people were breaching COVID directions.

More than 150 people were present, who were not social distancing and they were consuming communal food.

Police issued a $1060 fine to the event organiser late Sunday, for failing to comply with the Emergency Management Act.

CONCRETE TRUCK ROLLS AT PICCADILLY

A 30-year-old man has died after concrete truck rolled and hit a tree at Piccadilly.

MAN HIT BY PROPELLER IN BOAT CRASH

A man was flown to hospital after he was thrown off a fibreglass boat on the Murray River at Nildottie on Sunday.

The man, 35, was struck by the propeller after a 4m fibreglass boat with a small outboard turned around a bend on the river, causing the two occupants to be thrown into the water just before 5.30pm.

Police say the man’s injuries are not life-threatening and he is recovering in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The boat operator, a 31-year-old man from Walker Flat, was taken to the Mannum Hospital as a precaution.

Police seized the boat for inspection by Marine Safety, as officers investigate the incident.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11

WORKPLACE DEATH IN THE BAROSSA

A man has died in a workplace incident at Daveyston.

Emergency services rushed to a mill on the Sturt Highway about 10.30am on Sunday in response to reports of a workplace accident.

A 35-year-old Penrice man died at the scene.

SafeWork SA have been advised of the incident.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

ROCK CLIMBER RESCUED AFTER FALL

A rock climber has suffered severe leg injuries after plunging 10m down a cliff in the Onkaparinga River National Park.

The 28-year-old man fell at about 11am on Sunday, sparking an emergency rescue.

A helicopter winched the man to safety and he was taken to Flinders Medical Centre in a stable condition.

MAN ARRESTED OVER STOLEN CAR

A woman has helped police locate a thief who stole her car at Fulham Gardens by providing tracking information from her mobile phone which was in the vehicle.

The woman called police at about 11.50am on Sunday to report that her Mazda station wagon had been taken from a shopping centre on Tapleys Hill Rd.

She had been working at a shop in the complex when a man allegedly entered through rear door of the store and stole her handbag, which contained the keys to her car.

He then allegedly left in the woman’s car.

“The woman immediately alerted police and was able to provide tracking information to attending patrols via her mobile phone which was within the stolen handbag,” a police spokesman said.

The vehicle was tracked along Valetta and Frogmore roads until it came to a stop on Grange Rd.

“Patrols found the car stationary and unoccupied in a carpark on Grange Road but found the suspect return to the vehicle where he was quickly arrested,” the police spokesman said.

A 37-year-old Milang man is being interviewed by police and is expected to be charged with serious criminal trespass, illegal use of a motor vehicle and theft.

FUNCTION SHUT DOWN

A private function at Payneham was shut down on Saturday night after police identified several breaches of COVID-19 rules.

Police were sent to a community centre on Henry St just after 8pm after receiving reports of people breaching coronavirus restrictions.

Officers identified numerous breaches and shut down the event.

It is understood the breaches related to the number of people at the function and social distancing.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident but expect to issue a fine later today.

SPATE OF CAR FIRES

Police believe arsonists are responsible for a spate of car fires in Adelaide’s north and south in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A Holden sedan was destroyed by fire at a home on Angle Vale Rd, Penfield Gardens about 4am.

At 4.15am, a Toyota van and tree were on fire in front of a house on Yorke Avenue, Clovelly Park.

The van was destroyed in the incident.

About 15 minutes later, a Holden SUV that had been stolen from a Salisbury East home earlier in the night went up in flames in Jubilee Park, of Whitford Rd, Hillbank.

It too was destroyed.

Police asked anyone with information about any of the blazes to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
