Video of child being approached by strangers in car at Aldinga prompts warning to parents: Police advise no offence took place

An Adelaide mother warned the community after a car approached her son – but police have since clarified there was no malice intended.

Stranger danger warning after children approached in Aldinga

A video posted by an Aldinga resident has alerted parents to the occupants of a car seen approaching and scaring local children over the weekend.

In images captured by CCTV the late model dark-coloured car – which had no number plates – is seen approaching and stopping a 10-year-old boy on his scooter.

The boy stops briefly before fleeing after allegedly being yelled at by the occupants.

The child’s mother, who asked not to be identified, posted the video on Facebook appealing for police help.

“The car drove past, then did a U-turn and approached him,’’ she posted.

“A person said ‘come here sweetheart’ and he listened.

“Then the passenger said ‘get’ and he bolted across the road.

“No reg. Please keep your kids safe and talk about stranger danger.’’

SA Police later released a statement saying the vehicle had been found, and all people involved spoken to.

Police were satisfied there was no malice intended - and while encouraging the reporting of suspicious behaviour, stressed there was no actual offence in this case.

The Advertiser was contacted by the community group Onkaparinga Council Watch, which sought assurances from police that the car would be identified.

“The police clearly have a role here to create public confidence the community is not at risk,’’ spokeswoman Yvonne Wenham said.
