A teenager charged over a late night Hindley St attack does not deny throwing the punch which injured another man, but denies he intended to, a court has heard.

Cyrus Kane Stusser entered a not guilty plea in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday to a charge of intentionally causing serious harm over the incident which occurred about 1.30am July 5 last year.

The 19-year-old of Noarlunga Downs is also charged with the alternative offence of recklessly causing serious harm.

Stusser’s lawyer told the court his client conceded he had a case to answer.

“This is not a case of denying he hit the victim,” he said.

“We don’t deny we were there, we don’t deny that we did the strike, but we do deny the intention to.”

At the time of his arrest, police had alleged they were patrolling Hindley St when they spotted a fight occurring on the notorious party strip.

As they approached they saw one man drop to the ground and deployed OC spray to end the brawl.

Stusser, who was then 18, was arrested at the scene.

The alleged victim, a 30-year-old Blair Athol man, suffered serious head injuries.

Stusser will face trial in the District Court. He remains on bail ahead of his next court appearance in June.
