Parents at seven Adelaide schools have been sent letters informing them a relief teacher who worked at each of the schools at various times was this week arrested and charged with possession of child exploitation material.
Detectives from the SA Joint Anti Exploitation Team, the police Public Protection Branch and the Australian Federal Police arrested and charged a 39-year-old eastern suburbs man for one count of aggravated possession of child exploitation material and one count of possessing child exploitation material on Tuesday night.
A statement from the Department of Education confirmed parents at seven schools were notified, in line with protocols.
“SAPOL has notified the Department that a temporary teacher has been arrested and charged with possessing child exploitation materials,” the statement said.
“As this matter is before the courts, no further information can be provided at this time.”
Parents at two north eastern schools, Trinity Gardens School and Vale Park Primary School, were sent letters on Thursday, alerting them a teacher who previously worked at both sites was arrested on child exploitation offences.
Both letters, signed by Vale Park Primary School principal Fiona Love and Trinity Gardens School principal Brenton Conradi said parents with information that may assist the investigation should contact their local police station.
The teacher cannot be named until after he has appeared in front of the court.
He has bail conditions that prevent him from engaging in any child-related work or volunteering. He will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on August 31.
