Motorcyclist speeds through Adelaide suburbs, days after fatal accident

A motorcyclist has lost his licence after police caught him travelling at speeds of up to 140km/h on suburban streets.

A hooning motorcyclist has been clocked by police flying through suburbia at speeds of up to 140km/h, days after a young rider was killed in a crash.

The rider was tracked by police at speeds of more than double the limit through the western suburbs on Thursday last week, before being caught on camera by the PolAir police helicopter heading south on Prospect Road.

The 30-year-old Blair Athol man can be seen hurtling his blue Suzuki down the road past cars and pedestrians.

With five motorcyclists making up half of the state’s road toll this year so far, and just days after the tragic death of 16-year-old Will Miller at Angaston, police are reminding motorcyclists of a zero-tolerance approach to hooning.

Will was killed when his bike crashed into a tree on Menglers Hill Road, southeast of Angaston, on Saturday night, sending shockwaves through the Truro community.

The Blair Athol motorcyclist was charged with numerous offences including driving at a dangerous speed, unassigned plates, driving unlicensed and failing to truly answer questions.

He was issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice and his bike was impounded for 28 days.

The man was bailed to appear in court at a later date.

It comes after other motorcyclist hoons caught earlier this year – one at Dry Creek two weeks ago, prompting a stern warning from the Police Commissioner, who said hoons should be treated as major criminals, and another at Salisbury Heights in January.
