A man allegedly riding a motorcycle at more than 200km/h in Adelaide’s north has been charged with a range of offences and has lost his bike for a month.
The man, 32, from Salisbury Heights, was filmed weaving in and out of traffic and running numerous red lights by the police helicopter at the weekend on Main North Road at Salisbury Heights.
A police patrol spotted a Suzuki motorcycle travelling at speeds of more than 200km/h at about 11am on Saturday.
The police helicopter was nearby, and was called to the area to monitor the bike as it continued to weave through traffic and drive through numerous red lights, including one at The Grove Way.
About five minutes later, the Suzuki stopped at a house in Salisbury East, and the rider went inside.
Patrols went to the house, and located the rider who was charged with numerous offences including driving at a dangerous speed, driving unlicensed, driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle and unassigned plates.
The motorcycle was impounded for a minimum period of 28 days, and the man was bailed to appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court in February.
Superintendent Guy Buckley, officer in charge of Northern District said, “Police will continue to proactively target hoon driving and in particular hoon motorcycle riding in the Northern Policing District. We have and will continue to focus on this issue of concern to the community. Those who choose to engage in appalling behaviour such as this will be prosecuted without leniency.”
