Boy, 12, charged over fatal Whyalla Stuart crash as SA rocked by three road deaths in three days

A 12-year-old boy is expected to be charged with causing death by dangerous driving, after his 20-year-old passenger died from injuries suffered in a serious crash at Whyalla Stuart this month.

A 12-year-old boy has been charged over a crash that claimed the life of his 20-year-old passenger at Whyalla Stuart.

Police allege the youth was driving dangerously when he rolled a Holden Commodore into scrub at Jubilee Park, Whyalla Stuart, just before noon on Wednesday, July 8.

One of his passengers, a 20-year-old local man, suffered serious injuries and was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he eventually died on Sunday.

Another passenger, an 11-year-old boy, suffered multiple limb injuries and was treated at the Whyalla Hospital.

On the day of the crash, the 12-year-old was charged with two counts of cause harm by dangerous driving and appeared in the Whyalla Youth Court, where he was remanded in custody.

After the 20-year-old’s death on Sunday, police say his charges will be upgraded to causing death by dangerous driving.

He will appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on Wednesday.

The charges come after a horror weekend on South Australian roads, in which three people died in three days and two others were seriously injured.

CRASH 1: EDINBURGH

A 31-year-old Brahma Lodge woman died in a head-on collision at Edinburgh on Friday night.

Police and emergency services were called to Heaslip Road just after 6pm Friday.

The driver of the Kia involved in the crash died at the scene, while the driver in the other car remains in the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries.

CRASH 2: WATERLOO CORNER

A man has died after a crash at Waterloo Corner on Sunday afternoon.

Police and emergency services were called to Port Wakefield Rd at about 4.30pm Sunday after reports a Toyota Hilux ute had rolled off the side of the road.

The 21-year-old male driver, of Munno Para, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died in hospital.

The man’s death is the 56th life lost on SA roads compared with 65 at the same time last year.

CRASH 3: P ARALOWIE

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash at Paralowie on Sunday night.

Police were called to Whites Road, north of Burton Rd, after reports a Volkswagen sedan and motorcycle had crashed.

The motorcycle rider, a 39-year-old man from Angle Vale, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen, a 65-year-old woman from Paralowie was treated at the scene for shock.

CRASH 4: BUTE

A motorist has been serious injured after rolling their vehicle on the Upper Yorke Highway near Commons Rd at Bute on Monday.

There were reports that the driver was trapped in the wreckage.

Police have closed the highway between Commons Rd and Cameron Rd as emergency services respond to the crash.
