A woman has recalled how she cradled a dying man who crashed his motorbike into a parked car at Glenelg North.

Olivia Long was the first person on scene just seconds after the crash, which killed a Glenelg South man, 30, on Alison St at 1.25pm on Thursday.

Ms Long was working from home as a result of the coronavirus pandemic when she heard a motorbike with a loud exhaust speeding down her street.

“The next thing I heard was a massive smash,” Ms Long told The Advertiser.

“I sprinted to the scene and was the first person there.

“There were three neighbours that held on to him for 10 minutes and sadly he stopped breathing before the ambulance made it.”

Ms Long said the impact of the crash forced the parked car on to the pavement.

She said she was in shock at seeing the motorcyclist and went into prayer mode, placing her hands on the victim and praying for his survival.

“Two of my neighbours that I don’t even know also working from home ran and held his hands,” she said.

“We were all telling him to hang in there. I was able to pray for him and hold him and reassure him … just hold him until he was gone. “He was not alone. He had three people fighting for him.”

Ms Long urged drivers, motorcyclists and all road users to take care on the roads.

“If you’re on a motorbike or in a vehicle, don’t speed and definitely don’t speed in a local street,” she said.

The man was the seventh motorcyclist to die on South Australian roads this year – the same as this time last year.

His death takes the number of lives lost to 27, compared with 25 at the same time last year.

There have been nine road fatalities so far this month, including four in the past week alone.
