A motorcyclist has been taken to Flinders Medical Centre with life threatening injuries after a collision at South Brighton. Meanwhile, a man has been arrested over an assault in the CBD.

SATURDAY, JUNE 27

SERIOUS CRASH AT SOUTH BRIGHTON

A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a collision with a car.

The car and motorcycle hit on Brighton Rd, South Brighton, about 8pm on Friday.

The rider, a 28-year-old man, was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre with life threatening injuries. The man driving the car was not injured.

Brighton Rd was closed for several hours for northbound traffic while police examined the crash site

ARREST AFTER MAN PUNCHED IN CBD

A man who allegedly assaulted a person in the CBD has been arrested.

Members of the public were first to notice the suspect, who may have been carrying a knife, in Gouger St and reported him to police about 1.30pm on Friday.

CCTV showed the man allegedly punch another man before leaving the area. Officers spoke to the victim but he did not need medical treatment.

Police searched the CBD for several hours before locating the suspect near the Franklin St bus depot.

After speaking to several witnesses it will also be alleged the man threatened people in a coffee shop on Waymouth St about 11.30am.

No one was physically injured but victims were shaken by the incident.

A 35-year-old man from Taperoo was been charged with unlawful threats, aggravated assault, carry an offensive weapon and unlawful possession of prescription drugs. He was refused police bail and will appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

Anyone who saw the man in the vicinity of the Adelaide Central Market or Waymouth St is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

FRIDAY, JUNE 26

PUBLIC HELPS TRACK MAN IN DAMAGED CAR

A man has lost his licence for 12 months after allegedly refusing a breath test at West Beach.

Motorists contacted police with concerns after they witnessed a silver Toyota sedan driving erratically through Glenelg and West Beach about 7.30pm on Friday.

Witnesses said the car crashed into a light pole and gutter at Glenelg.

Patrols found the damaged vehicle on Tapleys Hills Rd, West Beach, a short time later.

The driver, a 42-year-old Grange man, refused a breath test and had his licence cancelled for 12 months on the spot, police say.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated driving without due care, fail to comply with breath analysis, fail to state personal particulars and leaving the scene of a collision.

His vehicle was impounded for 28 days. He will appear in court at a later date.

‘DRINK DRIVER’ LOSES LICENCE

A woman caught drink driving through the CBD was more than three times over the legal alcohol limit and lied about her age, police say.

Officers were called to North Tce after reports of a Holden Commodore driving erratically about 11.30pm on Thursday.

Police found the car on West Tce and the driver – who claimed to be a 29-year-old woman – was breath tested. She allegedly returned a positive breath test of 0.159.

Officers then discovered the woman was actually a 39-year-old from Amata in the state’s Far North.

She was reported for drink driving, providing a false name and driving disqualified. Her car was impounded for 28 days and her licence cancelled for 12 months.

The woman will be summonsed to appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

THURSDAY, JUNE 25

ADELAIDE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER CHARGED

A teacher at Adelaide High School has been charged with aggravated indecent assault.

The teacher was arrested on Saturday and principal Cez Green informed parents at the West Tce school in a letter, obtained by The Advertiser, on Thursday.

In the letter, Ms Green says the teacher has strict bail conditions preventing him from engaging in any child related work.

“The teacher has been directed away from the workplace and instructed not to attend the school pending the outcome of the police investigation and prosecution,” she writes.

SA Police said the accused man is 62-years-old and from the western suburbs.

He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in August while investigations continue.

MAN ALLEGEDLY ATTEMPTS TO STEAL BIKE THROUGH HOLE IN STEPNEY SHOP

A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to steal an expensive bike by pulling it through a large hole in a brick wall at a Stepney bicycle shop.

Police were sent to the Payneham Rd shop just after 2.30am this morning in response to multiple alarm activations.

When they arrived at the scene, they spotted a man running away from the store.

Officers chased the suspect and arrested him.

When they inspected the business they found a bike wedged in a large hole in a brick wall of the shop.

Officers also noticed other bicycles had been moved around.

The 30-year-old Kent Town man has been charged with serious criminal trespass and theft.

He did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

MAN ALLEGEDLY STEALS BEER DURING STONEYFELL BREAK-IN

A man will face court today after allegedly breaking into a takeaway shop at Stoneyfell.

An alarm activated at the Hallet Rd pizza restaurant just before 12.30am this morning and police arrived to find the front door ajar and an empty beer can nearby.

Officers, including Police Dog Zues, searched the area and located a suspect still in possession of beer allegedly stolen from the shop.

The 21-year-old Adelaide man was charged with serious criminal trespass and theft.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24

MAN ‘CRASHES’ INTO POLICE CAR

A man who allegedly stole a car and led police on a three-hour pursuit through the north and western suburbs has been arrested.

Patrols spotted a white Audi sedan parked on Crouch Rd, Golden Grove, and approached the driver just before 10.30pm on Tuesday.

The driver took off and had a minor collision with the patrol vehicle, police say. The Audi was then followed onto Golden Grove Rd where officers lost sight of the vehicle.

Checks revealed the sedan had been stolen from a Pirie St address in the CBD sometime during the day on Tuesday.

Over a three-hour period, the car was seen travelling through Ridgehaven, Cavan and Kilburn. When it was spotted at the intersection of Churchill and Cromwell roads at Kilburn it was missing a front tyre.

The car was seen on Grand Junction Rd, Regency Park, about 1.45am on Wednesday and followed onto Opala St where the driver stopped fled on foot.

After a quick chase the 31-year-old man from no fixed address was arrested.

He was charged with engaging in a police pursuit and illegal use, he was also charged with other offences he allegedly committed over the last three months.

They include two counts of illegal use of a motor vehicle, engaging in a police pursuit, aggravated serious criminal trespass, three counts of serious criminal trespass, two counts of illegal interference of a motor vehicle and committing acts to endanger life.

He was refused police bail and will appear at Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

MAN CHARGED WITH STEALING CHRYSLER 300

A man who allegedly stole a Chrysler 300 from the northern suburbs tried to escape police by climbing on the roof of a nearby house.

The man, 29, is accused of assaulting a 28-year-old man in Salisbury on Monday before stealing his phone and car.

A member of the public spotted the Chrysler parked on Military Rd at Taperoo on Wednesday afternoon.

As patrols approached the car, the man allegedly ran away and climbed onto a roof of a nearby house.

Police cordoned off the area and arrested the man, who was also found in possession of a large amount of cash and illicit drugs, allegedly.

He was refused bail to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.

ZEUS SNIFFS OUT SUSPECTS

Police dog Zeus has helped officers arrest two men during a break-in at a Glynde scrap metal yard.

Police will allege CCTV cameras captured two men breaking into the Glynde Rd yard about 1.15am on Wednesday.

The owner contacted police and patrols went to the property with Zeus and his handler.

Zeus tracked one of the suspects who was hiding near the northern side of the yard. The other suspect was found nearby.

A 47-year-old Para Vista man and a 32-year-old man from Pooraka were both charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and going equipped to commit an offence.

They were both refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

FAMILY BUSINESS SAVED FROM FLAMES

An Adelaide flooring business that has been operating for more than 55 years has been saved from fire at Beulah Park.

Reports of flames coming from the roof of Parquetry Flooring Company, on Magill Rd, were first reported to MFS crews about 7am on Wednesday.

Firefighters saved the $500,000 business and $300,000 worth of stock, containing the blaze to a room at the rear of the property.

The business was started by Anne and Colin Biemond in 1963 and is still run by the same family.

The cause of the fire is not suspicious

TUESDAY, JUNE 23

STUDENT ALLEGEDLY BASHED AT MUNNO PARA SCHOOL

Three teenagers who allegedly bashed a fellow student at Mark Oliphant College this month will face court.

The three boys have been accused of attacking the student at the Munno Para school just after 1pm on June 11.

Two Munno Para West boys, 14 and 15, and a 15-year-old boy from Andrews Farm, were all reported for aggravated assault.

Footage shows the youths, who were all wearing hooded jumpers, landing a flurry of blows as a staff member tries to intervene.

They have been excluded from the school for 10 weeks.

The 15-year-old victim suffered some bruising to the head and face, police say.

His father told 7News Adelaide: “He copped over seven punches to the back of the head … he could be dead right now.”

The three boys were summonsed to appear in the Elizabeth Youth Court at a later date.

An Education Department spokesman said the incident was under investigation.

“Appropriate counselling and disciplinary measures have been put in place, including students being excluded for 10 weeks,” he said.

The incident follows reports of a number of schoolyard fights at Mark Oliphant College that erupted amid global coverage of the Black Lives Matter protests.

TWO ARRESTED OVER DRUGS, WEAPON CACHE

Two people have been arrested after 21 guns, 17kg of cannabis and nearly $30,000 in cash were uncovered at a property in the Mid Murray region.

The discovery was made last Wednesday morning, just before 10am, at a shed on Reedy Creek Rd in Palmer.

Police say they found the cannabis stored in several buckets, as well as $28,000 in cash, more than 20 firearms and ammunition.

Police also seized a car, two motorbikes and a boat.

A man and a woman, both aged 55, were arrested and charged with trafficking in a large commercial quantity of a controller drug.

They were both bailed to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court in October.

OFFENDER SETS CAR ALIGHT

A two-year-old girl has missed vital treatment for a tumour at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital because a heartless arsonist badly damaged her family’s only car in Adelaide’s north.

Mother-of-four Amy Smith tried to hold back tears on Tuesday as she surveyed the damage to her family’s only vehicle, which was set alight at her home on Balmoral Rd, Salisbury East, about 2.20am – just metres from her sleeping daughter.

“My daughter was asleep in the bedroom just there,” she said.

“My daughter’s sick as well. She’s going through treatment for a tumour. Why would anyone do that to people that have kids.

“I don’t have a car now, that’s my family car.”

Ms Smith said her daughter had missed important treatment at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital because the family had no transport.

“I’m very concerned. We’ve moved all the beds out and we were sleeping in the lounge room but my youngest daughter is still in her room in her routine,” she said.

MFS crews extinguished the blaze but it had already caused extensive damage to the car.

MONDAY, JUNE 22

TENSE STAND OFF IN NOVAR GARDENS ENDS IN ARREST

A man has been arrested and will be charged with assault after police defused a standoff at a Novar Gardens house this afternoon.

The drama began just before 11.30am when police were called to a Camden Park home after residents reported a disturbance.

The man left prior to police arrival and allegedly assaulted another person in a nearby street before entering a home in Marsh Court, Novar Gardens.

Police attended the second home but the man allegedly made threats to harm officers with a weapon and refused to come out of the house.

With the assistance of police negotiators and STAR Group officers, the 39-year-old man along with three others exited the house just after 2.30pm. The suspect was placed under arrest without incident.

A woman inside the home received a small cut to her foot from a broken window.

SHOTS ‘FIRED’ AT CAR IN ARGUMENT OVER CASH

A stoush over sold items turned violent when a man allegedly pulled a gun on two people and fired at their car as they fled his home.

The alleged shooter was arrested after the incident at Elizabeth South on Sunday and charged with two counts of endangering life, discharging a firearm and aggravated assault.

The 42-year-old will face Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

The incident unfolded about 5pm when a man and woman visited a home on Willison Rd to receive payment for items they had sold.

But when an altercation between two of the men occurred, the occupant of the home produced a firearm, police say.

As the couple left in their car, the man allegedly fired shots and hit the vehicle.

Police responded to the home and stopped the man as he was leaving the property.

Four gel blaster guns were seized during a search.

WOMAN STABBED IN BACK

A man who stabbed a woman in the back at Encounter Bay has been arrested and is expected to face serious charges, police say.

Police arrived at the scene and found a woman with a stab wound about 12.45am on Monday.

The 48-year-old from Victor Harbor was treated by paramedics before and eventually taken to Flinders Medical Centre. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

A 48-year-old man from Encounter Bay was arrested and is expected to be charged with aggravated assault to cause serious harm.

Police encourage anyone experiencing domestic violence to contact them immediately for assistance.

CAR DESTROYED BY FIRE

A hooded arsonist has destroyed a car at Old Noarlunga.

Reports of a blaze burning in the driveway of a home on Main South Rd were made to police and MFS just after 4am on Monday.

Just minutes earlier, CCTV captured the offender, wearing a hooded jumper, sneak up to the Holden sedan and douse it in fluid.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the threat but the car was already destroyed.

Police are investigating.

MAN STABBED AT SEMAPHORE PARK

A 15-year-old boy and two men have been arrested after another man was allegedly stabbed during a home invasion at Semaphore Park.

Police and paramedics responded to reports a man had been stabbed inside a house near Grebe St about 5.30pm in Sunday.

The 31-year-old from Semaphore Park had stab wounds to his back and arm and was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy – both from Seaton – and a 40-year-old man from West Lakes.

The trio have been charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and aggravated assault cause serious harm. They were refused bail.

The men will appear at Port Adelaide Magistrates Court and the teenager will appear at Adelaide Youth Court on Monday.

Police believe the incident is not a random attack.

HIKER DEFENDS HERSELF WITH TORCH

A man is on the run after trying to grab a woman who was walking at sunset in the Morialta Conservation Park on Saturday.

Police say the woman was approached by an unknown man wearing black clothing about 5.15pm.

The man grabbed her by the shoulders, but she hit him with a torch.

It knocked him to the ground, allowing the woman to run to safety.

The suspect, who is described as caucasian and aged in his 40s, remains on the run.

Police say he is about 183cm tall and was wearing all black with a black beanie and was clean shaven.

SALON GUTTED IN ARSON ATTACK

A luxury hair salon at Hindmarsh has been targeted in an arson attack overnight.

The PLAY salon on Port Rd was completely gutted after a fire was deliberately lit at about 2.15am on Sunday.

The owner arrived to examine the damage just before 7am, but was too distressed to speak publicly.

Detectives examined the scene and are searching for who is responsible.

The damage bill is estimated at $200,000.

Nearby salon owner Binh Nguyen said he would help the PLAY business get back on its feet.

“I was really surprised to see this happen on such a busy road,” he said.

“My salon is just down the road, we have been working together on this road.”

Mr Nguyen arrived at the scene after receiving a call from PLAY’s distraught owner.

“We are all neighbours, particularly at the time we are going through now, we have to look after each other.

“I’m going to give (the owner) a hand if he needs help. He may have some clients, so he can come and work at my salon, which is just a couple of shops away from him.”

OFFICER ‘ASSAULTED’ DURING ARREST

A man has been arrested for allegedly hitting a police officer in the head and ripping his uniform during a “noisy party” in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

Police were called to a home on Pilsdon St at Davoren Park to deal with a disturbance just before 12.45am on Sunday.

The homeowner allegedly refused to provide details to police, prompting officers to begin arresting the man, 43.

During the arrest, he allegedly hit the officer in the head and ripped his uniform.

Pepper spray was used to subdue the 43-year-old.

He was charged with a raft of offences, including assaulting an emergency worker and property damage.

He will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday after he was refused bail.

A second man, 35, of Davoren Park, was also arrested and charged with hindering police.

He was granted bail to appear in court at a later date.
