A teenage boy has died after a stolen car left a dirt road in Kadina and rolled into a paddock, his 15-year-old passenger walking for 1km for help.

Fatal crash scene at Kadina

A Kadina resident heard a car speeding past his house numerous times on Thursday night before a fatal accident claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy.

Eric Wood, 25, who lives on Drain Road, said he heard a car race down the road before the crash, near the corner of Ellis Road.

“I heard a car revving, it got louder and louder, did around three laps and about 12.45am was about the time I heard the car cut off,” he said.

Mr Wood said cars don’t regularly drive at pace down the road and the last incident he can recall is around four to five months ago.

Police marking showed the red Holden car had been travelling north on Drain Road, when it left the road and rolled into a paddock.

The passenger, a 15-year-old local boy, walked for one kilometre to knock on the door a house and seek help.

When police and emergency services arrived at the scene, the 16-year-old Kadina boy had died at the scene.

The passenger, who was also a local boy, was taken to Wallaroo Hospital for treatment.

Major Crash Investigators arrived at the scene this morning.

The teen’s death takes the total lives lost on South Australian roads to 77, compared with 96 at the same time last year.

Kadina Memorial School, where the boys were students, released a letter to parents offering “sincere condolences and thoughts” to the affected families.

The letter, from principal Alistair Williams, encouraged parents to support their children. “Let your child know that you are aware of this sad news and that you will listen to their concerns at any time,” he wrote.

The school will run compulsory counselling sessions for students.
